AFRIKAANS

About us

De Moyencourt Ballet was founded in 1996, and we recently moved into our new home, the Balletateljee at Huppelland, Jan Van Riebeeck, Tamboerskoof, Cape Town. This state-of-the-art Ballet studio was designed by Stephen Hitchcock from Stretch Architects.

Allowing our passion to become our purpose, we aim to:

  • to nurture holistic development (physically, socially, and psychologically) within a safe environment.
  • to give students a grounding in classical ballet and stagecraft
  • to promote a long-term love and appreciation of dance
  • to foster creativity and bring out the best in each student so that they gain the confidence to express their own unique self.
  • to teach commitment and a serious work ethic.

Dancers are encouraged to audition for Cape Town City Ballet productions and to take part in eisteddfods, summer courses and festivals.

Adult Ballet

A dream delayed is not a dream denied…

Our Adult Ballet programme welcomes everyone, from complete beginners to dancers returning after a break. Classes focus on posture, strength, flexibility, balance, coordination and musicality in a supportive, judgment-free space.

We offer open, non-syllabus classes, allowing you to join at any time throughout the year. It’s never too late to start dancing or to get back into it. We look forward to seeing you in class.

What to wear

  • Whatever you feel comfortable in: ballet attire, leggings or gym attire.
  • Soft ballet shoes are ideal (canvas or leather); if you’re new, socks are fine for your trial class.
  • Hair should be secured off the face.
“When motherhood consumes you, it’s easy to lose a little of who you were before. Being able to pick up ballet again has given me the opportunity to rekindle a part of myself that I thought I had lost.”

“Ballet has given me a little piece of time that is just for me — a chance to breathe, be present and reconnect with myself. It has reminded me that you’re never too old to start something new, grow and find joy.”

“Remembering to give something back to myself while taking care of others has been so important. Ballet means rekindling that small, unfulfilled dream and looking at myself with loving eyes, while nourishing both body and soul in the process.”

“Having new goals beyond the daily challenges of life and work has been wonderful. Ballet gives me something to look forward to, while also allowing me to meet new people, make connections and share a passion for something I truly enjoy.”
